Don't Shred Our Jobs

The CFMEU has called on the Government to commit to support local jobs for pulp and paper workers by ensuring best practice and value for money procurement for pulp and paper products purchased by the Government and government agencies . Paper procurement policies must take into account the benefit of the retention of Australian jobs and taxation revenue.

Prior to the parliament rising, pulp and paper members were lobbying hard for our petition to be presented to the House of Representatives and subsequently referred to the PM and Finance Minister. The petition attracted more than 4,000 signatures of pulp and paper workers, their families and their communities in less than 3 weeks.

"I call on the incoming government to support local pulp and paper jobs by making sure the government and its agencies buy more Australian made paper and less imports."
